The City has many Boards and/or Commissions that are made up of citizens who volunteer their time to the City of Alexandria and it's citizens by serving on these Boards/Commissions. | The purpose of the Property Maintenance Board is to sit as an Appeals Board and pass on matters pertaining to property maintenance, which have been properly appealed, and will modify or reverse the decision of the code official, all pursuant to Section 111 of the 2000 Edition of the International Property Maintenance Code. This Board shall meet at least quarterly or upon request. | The purpose of the Ethics Board is to ensure the operations of city government manifests the highest moral and ethical standards among its officers and employees and desire to comply with all requirements of the Commonwealth's local government ethics law. | The purpose of the Code Enforcement Board is to conduct hearings to determine whether there has been a violation of the zoning ordinance. This Board further can issue remedial orders and impose civil fines in order to provide an equitable, expeditious, effective, and inexpensive method of ensuring compliance with the City of Alexandria Zoning Ordinance. | The purpose of the Board of Adjustments is to authorize such variances from the terms of this ordinance as will not adversely affect the public health, safety or welfare, will not alter the character of the general vicinity, nor cause a hazard or nuisance to the public. Further, some of the duties include granting conditional use permits as specified in the zoning ordinance, as well as deciding upon applications to convert or change an exisitng non-conforming use to another non-conforming use.
