Hello and welcome to Alexandria!
I grew up in Campbell County and graduated from Campbell County High School in 1962. I served in Air Force intelligence from 1963-1971 while stationed in Texas, West Germany, Maryland and Viet Nam. Soon after I returned from Viet Nam I graduated from the University of Maryland with a BA in Business Administration. Susan and I lived in Columbia, Maryland for 23 years and in 1996 returned to Campbell County when our daughter, Allison, enrolled at the University of Kentucky.
During my professional life from 1975-2008 I was in the financial services industry where I was a licensed life and health insurance consultant in Kentucky and earned my Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designations from the American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.
Since returning to Campbell County, I have been actively involved with several civic and community service organizations: Holly Hill Children's Service Board of Directors, 2003-2008; Main Street Baptist Church in several capacities, 1998 to present; CARE Mission Board of Directors, 2009 to present; and the Boy Scouts of American Dan Beard Council Eagle Scout Association Advisory Board, 2002-2008. My activities with the City of Alexandria include serving on the Planning and Zoning Commission for eight years, from 1998-2006, and being a member of City Council for four years, 2007-2010 before being elected Mayor in 2010.
My interests as Mayor are:
1) Keeping Alexandria a safe place in which to live and work;
2) Maintaining a fiscally sound municipality while keeping our taxes low;
3) Properly managing our upcoming growth and prosperity.
4) Consistently enforcing our ordinances.
5) Improving the physical apearance of our city.
I want to keep our slogan “Where the city meets the country” a true statement of our quality of life. We are blessed to live in a fine piece of Americana where growth and progress are both alive and well. We need to embrace and manage our progress while maintaining our small town atmosphere. I look forward to serving the citizens of Alexandria as your Mayor.
Mayor William T. Rachford, Jr.
