In 1997, the Alexandria Police Dept. created a SWAT team. Currently, Alexandria has five (5) Officers assigned to it. In 2004, three (3) Officers from the Cold Spring Police Dept. were added to the team. In 2006 two (2) officers from the Bellevue Police Dept, and in 2007, two (2) officers from Dayton Police Dept. joined the team. With this multi-agency unit, the team two (2) was re-named to the "nrother Kentucky. Special Operations Group" All the officers are trained in various tactical operations including dynamic and static entries, rappelling, explosive entry, and counter sniper. two (2) other Alexandria officers serve as negotiators for the team.
SWAT teams are used for many high risk operations such as arrest warrant service, drug search warrant service, hostage rescue and barricaded subjects. SWAT teams afford these operations to be done in a safe and tactical manner, being a luxury that the normal patrol officer does not have.As seen below, the Campbell Co. Special Operations Group trains for 10 hours per month, constantly honing their tactical and firearms skills, and is one of the better trained teams in the area.
