Just a quick hello and thank you to everyone!

ASA has made tremendous gains this year in supporting our troops and "raising their morale as high as the clouds."  In just the past two months alone, we have joined over 10 cities in four states, with another 12 in the process of joining the Adopt-A-Unit program.  Our organization was recognized by DOD's America Supports You and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld earlier this month in Los Angeles.  Please take a moment and tell a friend or family member about ASA's program - our troops need our support now more than ever!  Check out our website for more news and updates.

On May 15, 2003, the City of Alexandria officially adopted the Charlie Battery Company 2-44 Air Defense Artillery Unit 101st Airborne. Through the contact of America Supporting Americans (ASA), the City was assigned the Charlie Battery Company who have been deployed for some time now in Iraq, supporting the 187th "Rakkasans". This unit is based out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, not far from Alexandria, so we consider it a perfect match. The unit is made up of approximately 83 men. These soldiers refer to themselves as "Hellfighters".  As a brief history, the Charlie Battery is one of five Batteries that make up 2-44 ADA Battalion. It is divided into four platoons: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Headquarters Platoons. During this deployment Charlie is currently a part of the 187th "Rakkasan" Infantry Regiment (aka 3rd Brigade) by providing air defense protection and an air picture to the infantry soldiers. Charlie soldiers have trained on stinger missiles and avenger weapon systems and practice identifying both enemy and friendly aircraft and dangerous missions and long separations from their families and rest assured each one of these proud soldiers would welcome a home town such as Alexandria to support them.

We salute those in the Community who contributed to the effort of supporting Charlie Battery while deployed in Northern Iraq in 2003:

The Campbell County Student Government Council with Lisa Wiggins help raised $627.00 through a "Change War"

Pat Gableman with the Church of Christ in Alexandria sent care packages

Charlie Caldwell with Insight Communications put together a letter writing campaign

The Alexandria City Administration, Police Department, County Market, and Wal-Mart sent care packages.

If you are interested in helping out with this effort, please call Jennifer or John Stein at 859-635-7960.
